Forget the tutoring... The best investment in your child's brain is movement!
As parents, we want the best for our children. We buy them educational apps, pay for tutoring and seek out the best schools in the hope of giving them a head start in life. But what if we told you that one of the most effective tools for boosting intelligence is completely free, and you probably have it right outside your house?
New data shows that the key to a sharper brain lies not in another workbook, but in sneakers and exercise.

What the science says: 4 extra IQ points
A recent large meta-analysis that examined 14 randomized controlled trials produced fascinating results. Researchers followed children between the ages of 5 and 14 and found that structured exercise had a direct impact on their cognitive abilities.
Children who exercised regularly showed an average IQ increase of 4 points compared to their less active peers. You may be thinking that four points isn't much, but in the context of children's brain development, it makes a significant difference. This shift affects:
- Information processing speed: How quickly a child grasps new material in school.
- Flexible thinking (fluid intelligence): The ability to solve new, unfamiliar problems.
- Working memory capacity: Better handling of complex tasks without feeling overwhelmed.
Why does the brain love to sweat?
It's not magic, it's pure biology. When a baby moves, three key things happen in their body and brain:
- Better blood flow: physical activity pumps blood (and with it oxygen and nutrients) directly to the areas of the brain responsible for learning.
- Growth factors: Movement stimulates the production of substances that promote the growth of new neurons and strengthen the connections between them.
- Stress Resistance: Regular movement helps children better manage the cognitive load and stress of the school environment.
Good news: There is no "bad" sport
One of the most important findings of the study is that it doesn't matter what type of activity. You don't have to enroll your child in an elite tennis club or seek out a specific "brain camp."
Positive results were seen across all forms of exercise:
- Riding a bike or scooter.
- Playing on the playground and "babu."
- Martial arts or dance.
- Team sports like soccer or floorball.
The key word here is consistency, not program design. The most important thing is that the child moves regularly and that he or she enjoys it.
The verdict of the Arnold team
Instead of forcing kids to sit longer at the table when they're not good at something, we should do the opposite. Send them out. Let them run, jump and sweat. Their brains will thank them for it, not only with better grades, but also with more confidence and the ability to face life's challenges.
