Top classic physique competitor Chris Bumstead has taken up yoga

If you're a bodybuilder who has made it to the Mr. Olympia competitions, you will certainly be known to many fans of the sport. However, if you win a plaque at these competitions, you are already a true bodybuilder with a capital K. One of these fighters is Chris Bumstead who competes in the Classic Physique category. This 26 year old "kid" was born in 1995 in Ottawa, Ontario. His childhood activities included football, baseball, basketball and hockey.

However, he didn't take up lifting weights until he was 14 years old. And now you're about to learn something you'll consider a joke. Bumstead got into competing in the sport through a friend of his sister's, who at the time was Iain Valliere, one of the best bodybuilders of our time, and who has since become Christo's coach.

Bumstead took to the competition boards for the first time at the age of 19 and two years later, at 21, he earned his pro card when he won the IFBB North American Bodybuilding Championship. The future champion made his first appearance at the Olympia (in the Classic Physique category) in 2017, when he took second place. The same scenario repeated itself in 2018. On both occasions Chris was defeated by Breon Ansley. Since 2019, awareness of Bumstead began to build as he became Mr. Olympia for the first time. He was able to defend that title in 2020 as well as this year!

However, if you want to become the highest, you have to pay a tax that costs something, but also hurts. And in bodybuilding, this is doubly true. Chris Bumstead realizes just that and has ordered the well-deserved rest he needs to recover from intense training, diet prep, etc. Chris has even decided to incorporate new routines to help him feel better. One of the new things this champion has added to his program is yoga, which his girlfriend Courtney King "forced" him to do. We all know how persuasive girlfriends can be...

Getting rid of stress, lots of water and improved mobility - such are the benefits (and for some, the drawbacks) Bumstead sees behind the morning yoga classes he's now struggling through. We'll see if yoga helps Chris get a jump start on the 2022 season.
