Tampa Pro 2020 - the closely watched competition was dominated by the phenomenal Hunter Labrada!

The thirteenth edition of the Wings of Strength Tampa Pro, organized under the banner of Jim Manion's IFBB Professional League, took place in Florida at the Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay Hotel this past weekend, July 31st and August 1st.

Although we are already in the middle of the competition season, this was only the second competition where fighters from the Open category could compete! For 5 long months there was no competition due to the worldwide Covid-19 Coronavirus pandemic!

Even this competition was under the cover of risk of not taking place for a long time, but the main organizer Tim Gardner did everything possible to make sure that the competitors would stand on the podium after all, under very strict health and safety measures!

Men's open bodybuilding

The starting list for the Open Men's Heavyweight competition consisted of 12 fighters, all from the United States. No Europeans made the trip to the USA due to the strict restrictions on movement.
The only one who wanted to take the risk, so to speak, was the British bodybuilder Samson Dauda. However, he was refused entry to the USA at the airport on the grounds that it was not necessary!

Hunter Labrada, the son of the double silver medalist from the 1989 and 1990 Mr. Olympia competition Lee Labrada, was already considered the strongest favourite to win, despite the fact that this was his first start among the elite!

Iain Valliere, the 14th man of Mr. Olympia 2018, was to be his biggest rival on his way to triumph.

The above was immediately confirmed in the first semi-final comparison, where both fighters were given space together with the pair of Dwayne Walker and Ronald Gordon.

The pair Labrada - Valliere were reunited for one last comparison, which belonged exclusively to them and their duel for the victory!

In the end, Hunter Labrada was rightfully able to rejoice, emulating his father. Lee Labrada also managed to dominate his very first professional competition, the Night of Champions in 1986.

On stage, the 115 kg Hunter could benefit from the development and fullness of his muscles, perfect symmetry, and a very professional presentation. He also had the advantage of a very good skin finish, which made many details stand out.
The only major weakness was the less pronounced depth of the back. The lack of muscle hardness could also be criticised this time.

On the other hand, Iain Valliere was granite-hard and perfectly sculpted, literally to the bone, taking second place. However, he was too flat, with a poor choice of colour, which combined with his lacklustre posing cost him the win.

Dwayne Walker of Jamaica was able to take third place. The wrestler, who was still competing in the under 212lb division last season, took the judges' advice and moved on to the heavyweights, among whom he can make further progress. He has added to his previous strengths of excellent physique and perfect form this time with improved volume. He deservedly won the success of his life!

Phillip Clahar achieved a lifetime achievement of 4th place. He presented himself with rounded muscles and very good final preparation.

Ronald Gordon, who also boasts a very nice physique, managed to break into the Top 5. However, he loses to his rivals in volume.

Men's bodybuilding up to 212 pounds

There were 5 more fighters than in the Open category, 17, in the under 212 lbs division. Among them, George Peterson, a multiple bronze medalist at the Classic Physique Olympia, was considered the big favorite to win.
So it's not at all surprising that George was the one the judges chose for the first comparison along with the trio of Aaron Clark, Dectric Lewis, Derik Oslan. In the middle of the line, the duel for the victory was fought by the pair Peterson - Lewis.

George Peterson took the win in his debut start in this division. He was not only plenty powerful, but his muscles are hard, full and mature. Add to that his excellent posing and there is nothing to fault this fighter!

George has managed to put on a very solid 9 kilos since his start at Classic Physique Olympia last year! His coach, Justin Miller, said that half of these 9 kg are newly built muscles, the other half are muscles that George didn't have to burn because of the weight limit.

This year's Olympia 212 Showdown, which George qualified for with his triumph, will then show if this division has found its new star in him after the departure of James Lewis to the Open category!

The second place was taken by Dectric Lewis, who benefits mainly from his balanced physique and muscle density.

The third place went to Derik Oslan, who has managed to gain an impressive 8 kilograms since his start at this competition last year! The newly gained volumes were noticeable, and so the 9-place jump from last year's event was well deserved!

The excellent 4th place was then taken by Aaron Clark, who made us forget about the 2018 season, during which he collected only scoring positions.

Kevin Johnson, who impressed especially with the symmetry of his figure, also made it into the TOP 5.
