World's Strongest Man U90 2024 | Report with results
This is a race I don't normally follow, I know the fighters are strong and excellent, but lightweight and middleweight are not in my direct circle of interest. But today I'm happy to make a big exception. In Madison, Wisconsin, USA there was a World's Strongest Man event for Masters, U105 and U90, all under the Official Strongman banner, which is a well-known and respected brand of association that organizes strongman competitions. Today I would like to talk specifically about the U90 category, the category where the competitors weigh less than 90 kg.
I want to talk about it because our Czech colours were defended here by Filip Zajíček, a young, likeable boy. Moreover, in such a difficult race, where out of 10 competitors in the starting field and where half of them were native Americans, he did a great result. Let's take it in detail.
The competitors competed in 7 events that tested all the skills and strength of strongmen.
- Loglift
- Car Walk
- Dedlift
- Medley
- Sandab Toss
- Wrecking Ball Hold
- Atlas Stones
How did Filip stand and how did he fight? Find out now:
Loglift
The classic discipline that usually opens the competition, although of course this may not be the rule. The competitors had the log loaded to 141 kg, which is definitely not a little, please take into account that the competitors had a maximum body weight of 90 kg. First place went to Viktor Lingman from Sweden with six reps. Second place Andrew Hanus from USA for five reps. And finally third place for three reps Filip Zajíček - Czech Republic, unfortunately for Filip three other competitors did what he did, so the points were shared.
Car Walk
Probably the nicest version of the Super Yoke, which can be, spectator-wise, very attractive. The Super Yoke made of a car, i.e. its body in the middle with a tube to carry it, the whole structure weighed 363 kg and was carried 15 meters. A similar construction, although not so flashy) was seen several times in Cologne or Kutná Hora at our home competitions. Third place Viktor Lingtman - 10,67 seconds, that was great and fast, just faster with 10,16 Cameron Hutchison from the USA and first place with 9,01 time, so sovereignly the fastest run in the Czech Republic, the gold on the discipline was scored by Filip.
Deadlift
Although the discipline has the name of deadlift, it was a deadlift with Axle axle, competitors could choose whether to lift 270 kg or 318 kg with the well-known rule that one valid attempt with a heavier axle is more than all attempts with a lighter axle. In the end, only one competitor reached for the lighter axle. Second place for six repetitions was shared by Dan Benson of Great Britain and Nocholas O'Hare of the USA. First place for a whopping nine reps went to Jon Haack of the USA. Filip didn't do too well, his three reps were enough for a seventh place split, which is a shame...
Medley
The task of today's medley was to carry a 125 kg sandbag 15 metres, followed by another 15 metres of a 136 kg sandbag and finished by pushing a sledge another 15 metres. Third place went to Joni Rautiainen of Finland, who did it all in a nice 33.41 seconds. Second place went to Andrew Hanus with a time of 32.17 seconds, and the biggest points earner was John Haack, who did it all in 31.95 seconds. Philip just missed out on third place and took fourth place, his time was 33.64 seconds.
Sandbag Toss
Bag toss, here I would dare to say that I have already described what was involved, it is nothing complicated, perhaps only that the organizers shortened the time limit to 45 seconds to make the race go faster and not to have delays. In total, 6 bags were thrown, weighing from 16 to 22 kg. Third place went to Tyler Davis from the USA, who managed five bags in a time of 15.1 seconds. Second Filip Zajíček, managed all 6 bags in 35,8 seconds. First place Andrew Hanus, also six bags in 20.96 seconds.
Wrecking Ball Hold
Wrecking ball hold, no Miley Cyrus aka Hannah Montana was not sitting there, neither dressed nor undressed. The competitors had to climb a tall structure and there they held a huge 250 kg wrecking ball in a sumo hold for time. Whoever lasted longer placed better. Third place, Viktor Lingman, lasted 135.52 seconds. Second place Filip Zajíček, who held the ball for 144.06 seconds. Dan Benson held on to win the event in handball with a time of 184.59.
Atlas Stones
What better way to end a world competition than with a world... That is, with 6 concrete balls weighing between 113kg and 170kg. Third place Jake Allen of Great Britain, managed all six balls in a time of 38.76 seconds. Second place, Filip Zajíček, who hit all six balls in 37.74 seconds. Tyler Davis from the USA took the first place with a time of 36.24.
Results
It was a great competition in which the Czech colours were definitely not lost, here I can say that Filip won one discipline, in three he was second, in one third and one he failed. All in all, I have to say that fantasy and Filip CONGRATULATIONS to you for winning the title of World's Strongest Man U90 2024. And I know that we will definitely not hear about you for the last time.

This year has been generally good to the Czech representatives. In the most elite group in the World's Strongest Man competition Ondra Fojtů appeared in the qualification and just missed the final, I believe that next year he will not miss it. I also have to mention Stepan Bystrinec, who became Natural World's Strongest Man 2024. If we add Filip, we can be proud of our competitors.
