Movember Trapbar Cup 2023 - results and report

On St. Martin's Day, 11/11/2023, there was no riding on a white horse. Even the weather was still pleasant for an outdoor walk. Anyway, who would go out when a luxurious and charitable event was just taking place in Kladno. So, even though it was Saturday, I got up and went to Kladno Fit Effect gym to lend my voice to this spectacular event.

Despite the fact that I arrived at the place quite early in the morning, the last preparations before Movember Trapbar Cup 2023 were already underway. The team of volunteers around Lukáš Beran was organizing the third edition of the trapbar barbell lifting competition that very day. As usual, the whole event was purely charity and all the proceeds went to a good cause. Here I must note that the strength athletes who came to Kladno from almost all over the Czech Republic are mostly good people who do not hesitate to contribute to support the needy.

Movember Trapbar Cup vol. 3 was well planned, Lukáš and the whole team of people around him knew exactly what to do, they gained experience in previous years and at other similar competitions. Practically from the morning everything went exactly as planned. Competitors had 2 trapbars prepared in the warm-up room, where also before each category there was a precise instruction and explanation of the rules. The stage itself also contained 2 trapbars, on which the competitors took turns in case of sharing more categories. Two judges, each in charge of one trapbar, ensured that the rules were followed and that the whole race was run in a regular manner. They were Mari Zvrtek and Michal Káčer. Huge thanks also go to the loaders, who pulled the most kilos of weights during the whole day, and of course to the girls, the recorders and everyone else.

As planned, the race started a little after nine o'clock and several categories of competitors presented themselves throughout the day.
But let's take it one at a time. First the girls, ladies, or if you want women. Although the girls competed together, they were divided into weight categories of up to 80 kg and over 80 kg. And frankly, I can admit that the ones who presented themselves at the race would embarrass any guy in the public. The girls not only fought to the last vestiges of their strength, but they absolutely raised the bar compared to last year's event.

In the category up to 80 kg Martina Malzova, a drone competitor, deservedly won, who managed to lift 210 kg and when converted into points according to Wilks, she won the women's category absolutely. Martina was followed in the category by Nicole Tučková with 180 kg, Nikola Bahenská, who managed 150 kg and Bára Boháčková, who put 130 kg.

In the over 80 kg category, the strowoman competitor Jana Roubalova won, lifting an impressive 220 kg followed by Jana Zenklova with a 200 kg performance. Zuzana Ziadehová and Iveta Mádlová managed to give the same weight. Dominika Krtkova was next in the ranking with 170 kg and Tereza Bartůňková, who broke the 150 kg trap bar.

After a short break the "old men and boys" introduced themselves. How else to call the category of masters and juniors. Together with the juniors also presented two competitors in the category up to 70 kg. As there was a more diverse starting field, the loaders had all the more work to do, as they not only had to add weight but also take it away. Along with the more complicated distribution in the starting field, I will try to outline the results in an understandable way. In the junior category up to 18 years of age, the winner was Václav Bystřinec, who managed 220 kg. The second place went to Adam Zdenek with 210 kg. The third place, but huge admiration was reaped by Petr Lněnička Jr., a young boy who did not weigh even 50 kg went into the fight with vigor and managed to humble an amazing 115 kg. Another junior competitor was Jan Lacina, but the organizers could not let him compete in the same category, mainly because of his activity in the Czech professional strongman division, he managed to put 320 kg.

Together with juniors, the masters fighters took turns in the attempts. Václav "Bear" Nedvěd, who also improved his last year's performance and stopped at an amazing 340 kg, defended his championship here. The second place with the same performance but heavier personal weight was presented by Bedrich Jochim. The bronze jingled to Petr Gažko, who managed 300 kg. The bronze medal for a great performance, also 300 kg, went to Petr Lněnička Sr.

In the category up to 70 kg two fighters fought. The more successful one took the prize - a brand new trapbar for the overall winner - and it was Petr Kalivoda with his performance of 300 kg at a personal weight of 69.3 kg. Hats off, really. The second place with 290 kg was taken by Václav Bartos.

After another short break, the U80 and U90 categories were combined again. So up to 80 kg and up to 90 kg. And here the trap bar was getting really full. In the U80 category Tomáš Gutvirt won with 300 kg. But Denis Kovacik also gave the same weight, only he weighed a few more. Third place Ondřej Janoušek with 260 kg. Next were Tomáš Hála, Lukáš Laštovka and Ondřej Červený, all of them overcame 240kg. Another competitor who should be applauded is Dalibor Sládek, because he is a complete beginner and although he started training some 4 months ago, he did not hesitate and immediately entered such a competition. Dalibor managed 160 kg.

In the U90 category, Václav Keřtof took the golden place with 340 kilos lifted. Patrik Kovacik took silver with 330 kg. Taras Hrynchovych won the bronze for 320 kg. Other placings were won by Marek Tykva for 280 kg, Dominik Klaban for 270 kg, Petr Vácha and Jaroslav Fousek for 240 kg and Jan Krajník who managed to lift 220 kg.

Shortly after noon the spectators were introduced to the most numerous category - U105, i.e. competitors up to 105 kg. 2 competitors finished with the highest performance. 360 kg and the first place was taken, again due to lower personal weight, by Patrik Kohout. A close second, but objectively closer to the victory was Milan "Voldemort" Čanda, who only narrowly failed to hold the trapbar during his 370 kg attempt. He was 1 second and 5 cm short of a valid performance. But this is sport too. Milan took second place. Third place went to Lukáš Čálek with 320 kg. 300 kg were done by Filip Kastl, Daniel Stehlík and Matěj Kostohryz. Then 280 kg were lifted by Tomas Cernohorsky, Petr Kolinsky, Lukas Sedlacek and Ondrej Dicky. Daniel Šebesta managed to record a maximum of 240 kg.

The open category was the last one, i.e. all fighters who weighed more than 105,9 kg. And that we are not little people, as far as weight is concerned, so yes, there were competitors weighing between 116,1 kg and the massacre 164 kg. Two fighters in the first two places, similarly as in the lighter categories, managed the same weight, it's not really possible to come up with much after that, the competitors started at 200 kg and although they could jump from 260 kg, they had about 8 to 9 attempts each. There every kilo or every attempt is decisive. The highest trap bar weight lifted in the category and in the whole competition was 400 kg. Although the second place finisher was again closer to 420 kg, he was not able to maintain it. The victory was won by Josef "Hojdy" Hojdar.

The second place was narrowly lost by Petr "Hector" Klich, whose 420 kg barbell slipped out of his hand perhaps a second before the referee would have rejected a valid attempt. But it wouldn't be fair to give Petr's attempt credit. The third place went to Stepan Bystrinets with 370 kg. The potato was taken by Jarda Svoboda with a great performance of 340 kg, who is simply unlucky or lucky for the fourth place? I think it is a great result in this competition. Other placings were Jiří Rauš with 320 kg, Máňa Urban with 300 kg. Then Ondřej Št'astný and Denis Pynias for a beautiful 280 kg and Martin Zavadil for 260 kg.

It is finished, everything is according to the plan, no delays or sudden facts did not happen, on the contrary, everything ran exactly as it should. Nobody got hurt, and that's the main thing. I lost my voice with constant cheering somewhere around noon, but it didn't matter at all I kept on roaring. Again I have to say that Lukas Beran with his wife Misha and the whole team of people prepared a great race and what's more, that day on the positive side they raised a great 74 000,- CZK, which together with other money for Loglift and Strongmans on the tracks gave a total of more than 125 000,- CZK donated to a good cause.

I have no choice but to invite you, the spectators, to the next edition of the Movember Trapbar Cup, but before that happens, put the date of 27th April 2024 in Kladno in your calendar, but this time in the larger premises of the Kino Sokol and come to cheer or even compete in the Loglift Cup 2024.
