Iron Biby - Loglift has a new world record! How much did he lift over his head?
Well, here we are with a new world record. It was set by the best pusher of our time. The giant, the titan Cheick Sanou from Burkina Faso, who is known by his nickname Iron Biby or King Biby. Now 31 years old, 190 centimetres tall and weighing 180 kg, Cheick, who grew up in very modest conditions, has broken his own record, which he set in Glasgow two years ago.
On Saturday 21 October 2023 he broke the 230kg mark with his amazing and clean attempt. And if the last attempt was universally questionable in terms of arm extensions or length of overhead endurance, this time it was crystal clear. Iron Biby pushes everything on the brute strength of his arms, he doesn't jump. I think he'll break some records in the future.
For comparison, when I wrote two years ago that Iron Biby broke Zydrunas Savickas's magical 228 kg from 2015 with a valid attempt at 228 kg, the Czech record holder Jiri Vytiska held the Czech record at 180 kg. At that time, the best domestic pushers were grinding their teeth on that Czech record. Even though we could see heavier performances in training, the Czech loglift was cursed in competitions. Then a pair of Brno giants Lukáš Pepř and Ondřej Fojtů appeared.
They, without the slightest hesitation, not only broke the record, but moved it up a good bit. First, in the spring of 2022, Lukáš Pepř lifted a beautiful 193.4 kg in Kladno at the Fit Effect Loglift Cup. At the same event this year, Ondra Fojtů not only broke the magical 200 kg mark, but also set a new Czech absolute record, as well as a junior world record of 206.1 kg. And given Ondra's performance, I can only speculate how long this record will last and push it further.
