Czech Amateur Championships - Strongman Osek 2024 | Výsledy a reportáž
The Czech Republic Amateur Strongman Championships for 2024 took place in Osek u Most on 22 June 2024. The team around former professional strongman Michal Tichý prepared this year's competitions perfectly. The experience from the previous years was definitely known and both competitors and spectators came to the local football field. For the spectators it was all the more pleasant because the grandstand allowed comfortable seating. The weather also worked out this year, I would almost dare to say too well. With temperatures in the 30s, it was one of the hottest days of the year, which is no mean feat for competitors in direct sunlight.
This time 16 amateur strongmen stood on the starting line, ready to compete in five tough disciplines and decide who would be titled this year's Czech Champion among them. At the same time, the best ones can accept the invitation among the professional fighters and move up a notch.
This year's disciplines:
- Axle Press - 120 kg
- Axle Deadlift - 250 kg
- Super Yoke - 350 kg
- Medley
- 100 kg Sandbag
- 100 kg Keg
- 120 kg Sandbag
- Sandbag to Shoulder - 140 kg
Axle Press
Similarly to Šternberk, the fat axle played a major role in Osek as well, with a total of two disciplines. This time the whole race opened on it. A weight of 120 kg is already a solid collection of kilograms, and the competitors had exactly one minute to get it off the ground as many times as possible. Although a huge amount of fight was evident, a total of a quarter of the competitors were unfortunately left without a point. The remaining points were scored by. I probably won't name them all here, but the highest number of valid reps ended up being 4. But not just one competitor, the same number was managed by 4 fighters, another quarter. The winning number of points was thus divided between Petr Toman, Petr Klich, Richard Tabaček and Damián Polidar.
Axle Deadlift
The second discipline and again with a fat axle. I have mentioned in the past that not only is it harder to hold, but it does not bend at all, so it is definitely not easy to do, especially if the axle is loaded with a weight of 250 kg. In the deadlifts for reps, Petr Klich and Pavel Juříček took bronze in the discipline together, both managing a great 8 reps. The silver place went to Petr Toman, who managed a fantastic 9 reps. And Richard Tabaček took the gold with a fantastic 10 reps.
Super Yoke
One of the stalwarts of strongman sport. A metal construction, here in Osek, loaded to 350 kg, which sits on the trapeze, or back, if you want, and goes. The 20 metre long track was on grass, which could have been harder because of the risk of injury. But for the most part, all the competitors handled the Yoke with bravado. Third place went to Matěj Brabec, who completed the whole course in a great 13.74 seconds. Faster and therefore second was Pavel Juříček, who had a time of 12.26. The sprinter of the day on the discipline and therefore with the full number of points was Ondřej Batelka, his time was an admirable 10.81 seconds. That is about 2 meters per second.

Loading Medley
In order not to have too little running, the organizers prepared another airing of strongman lungs. The competitors had the task to take away a total of 3 parts in the time limit of one minute. It was a 100 kg sandbag, then a 100 kg barrel and finally a 120 kg sandbag. It was run in a back and forth style. Unfortunately the intermediate times did not count in this event, which would have shown more how one stands. Only the individual takeaways or total time were counted in the time limit. Here I would like to single out Milan Canda, called Lord Voldemort, who was the only one from the whole starting field who managed to carry all 3 parts in the time limit in a great time of 48.3 seconds. Everyone else took a split second place, because everyone else brought 2 parts. This is also why I talked about the possible measurement of intermediate times. On the other hand, the rules were known before the race and all competitors had the same conditions.
Sandbag to shoulder
For non-English speakers, I'm happy to translate again. The last discipline of the whole race was the shoulder bag. Specifically, there were 2 sandbags, competitors could choose between a 120 kg or 140 kg sandbag, with one repetition with the heavier bag being more than all the repetitions with the lighter bag. On the other hand, 140 kg is already a solid load and the competitor risked a possible zero for a failed event. In the end the heavier bag was decisive, one repetition and therefore the second place was taken by Petr Toman, Petr Klich and Eduard Školoud. Milan Čanda scored the full number of points and the second victory in the discipline in a row, with this pursuit race he clearly showed how much he stands for the highest position. Was it enough for him? We will see.

Results
As I have already mentioned, this race was again one of the very good and well prepared ones. The hot summer weather made it all the more difficult. Now the results are already counted and everything is clear. Milan's ride at the end of the race this time was enough for a perfect third place with a total of 57.5 points. Second place went to Petr Klich, who collected 60 points. The first place, the golden cup and the title of the Champion of the Czech Republic among amateur strongmen, and the place among professionals from next season belongs to Petr Toman, who obviously liked the disciplines and actually did not fall behind in any of them. Petr collected a total of 64.5 points and proved to be the strongest and most complete competitor of the day. Congratulations.
And I would like to add, I am already looking forward to the next competitions, next year again in Osek and also to see how Petr will manage to make his mark among the professionals, because judging by his performance it will be a ride...
