Saudi Classic 2023: Who dominated one of the first races of the year?
Last year was very demanding in terms of the number of competitions and, of course, properly attractive for the audience. Most of us haven't even had time to absorb the impressions from the last Olympia and now the first race of the new season is here, which for the second time was the Saudi Classic held in Saudi Arabia.
The starting field consisted of only six bodybuilders
The Saudi classic is a competition for bodybuilders competing in the category up to 212 pounds and it must be noted that looking at the starting list of six competitors, many had to smile. However, it is worth noting that 4 of these competitors were participants of last year's Olympia and the expected favourite of the whole competition was Ahmad Ashkanani, who finished fourth at the prestigious competition in Las Vegas. He confirmed his role as the favourite quite clearly, the only one who could threaten him was the Omani competitor Mazin Al Rahbi, who lost a lot in terms of volumes, but he was able to compensate everything with aesthetic impression of his figure and great presentation. But even that was not enough to win and he had to settle for second position. The top three were then rounded off by another competitor from Oman, namely Anwar Albalushi. Fourth place was then taken by a competitor whose imaginary ink on the proficart had not even had time to dry. Ahmed Juraybi won his place among the pros at the Saudi Pro Qualifier amateur competition held just moments earlier. Fifth place went to Hungarian giant Peter Molnár and the top six were rounded out by Mohammed Touri, who returned after a several-year hiatus.
What about other categories?
In addition to the category of powerful competitors up to 212 pounds, athletes in the Classic Physique category could also compete at these competitions, but it was more of a battle for second place. The first place rightfully belonged to the German athlete Mike Sommerfeld, who was in the top five at the Olympics. The last category, Men's Physique, was won by Mahmood Almaghrabi from Bahrain, who secured early qualification for the Olympics.
It is worth noting, however, that apart from the winners, all other competitors will leave these competitions with nothing. This is because under the revised rules, the winner qualifies but the others do not score any points. If you are a fan of bodybuilding under 212 pounds, you will now have to wait a long 4 months before the season fully kicks off. But then it will be one contest after another and we'll keep you posted on all the exciting competitions.
