Procházka voluntarily gives up his championship due to injury!
We all remember very well the beginning of the worm when Jiri Prochazka became the UFC welterweight champion when he was able to defeat Teixeira in the title fight. Jiri was able to choke out Glover Teixeira in the last minute of the last round to become the welterweight champion! Walk literally escaped the undertaker's shovel and won the title at the last minute...

But not everything is white. Recently it was reported that Procházka has an injured shoulder and will not be able to defend his title. Although it was assumed that this was erroneous information, these reports were finally confirmed.
"Jiri Prochazka will not fight at UFC 282 due to a serious orthopedic injury. So far it looks like the injury will require up to a year off. According to the UFC and Jiri's representatives, Prochazka himself has decided to relinquish the title of champion out of respect for the other fighters in the division," reported Brett Okamoto, a reliable source of information, unfortunately.
Dana White for Yahoo Sports stated the following regarding Jirko's injury:
"It's the worst shoulder injury the doctors have seen in the history of the UFC," White told Yahoo Sports, "It's really serious. His shoulder is bad, f-ing bad. He's going to have major surgery that will require extensive rehab. We met with Jiri last night, and listen, the guy just has a level you rarely see. He's literally a warrior, but of course he was overwhelmed by it all. But he's the one who started talking about giving up the title. He's going to be out of the game for a long time, so it was probably going to come down to that eventually anyway, but before we could even suggest it, George made the decision. He brought it to us and said he didn't want to hold up the division out of respect for the other fighters. I'll tell you, the kid's a man for reacting like that."
Jirka subsequently commented on social media as follows:
"Hello, everyone. Thank you for all your messages. I would like to apologize to Glover for cancelling the fight just a few days before it takes place. That's just life. Congratulations also to Ankalaev and Blachowicz on their title shot. But I still feel like a champion. When I'm well, I'll come back for the title. My goals are much higher and bigger than just the title. I'll be back! Thank you for your messages. The championship! Victory."
I am very disappointed to announce that I will not be defending my belt at UFC 282. I was injured in training in Las Vegas while finishing my preparation for my title defense in the UFC's semi-heavyweight division. I injured my shoulder and surgery is required which will put me out of action for at least 6 months. Knowing this information, I have decided, after consulting with UFC management, that due to this time constraint, I will not hinder the welterweight division and will vacate the title currently.
I will go for the UFC championship as soon as the doctors give me the green light to fight. I'm going to go for the belt and I'm going to get it no matter who currently holds it. It's always been the most important thing for me to put on the best performance and compare myself to the best. Let the best show who's there now. I'll be back in six months and I'll take the title whoever holds it. I apologize to my fans, friends, family who bought tickets and made plans to come to Las Vegas to support me, it means a lot to me. I also want to apologize to Glover. Victory! " said Jiří Procházka on his IG profile.
If you are wondering exactly what happened to Jiri's ramen you can watch the video below, which is in English, but still everyone will understand what happened to Procházka.
Karlos Vémola, who has a lot of experience with injuries, also commented on Jirka's injury.
"Honestly, I am very sorry. I know from my own experience that nothing could be worse for a fighter than losing his title. But at the same time I know that someone with such a hard will, with such a hard head, with such determination as Jirka, will soon come back for the title. Some of these dudes will just have the belt on loan for a while. It's a small consolation for Jirka, but it's a big disadvantage for the future champion: the whole world will be holding a question mark over that title. Everyone will say: He's only got it because Jirka's hurt. How would it be if Jirka was fine... I think it's just a fight for the interim champion now. And the whole world will be waiting to see what kind of shape Jirka comes back in after his injury. We all have something to look forward to when that happens. I wish it to be as soon as possible," Vémola told iSport.cz.
We are keeping our fingers crossed for Jirka and we hope he will recover soon!
