Mr. Olympia 2020 - what the semi-final fights offered

These days, the Orange County Convention Center in Florida became the venue for the 56th edition of the most prestigious bodybuilding competition in the world, Mr. Olympia 2020.

Despite the fact that the contest, like all other branches of the sport, has been marred by the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic, which resulted in a change in the date and venue of this year's contest, and the non-entry of several fighters such as Roelly Winklaar, James "Flex" Lewis, Nathan DeAsha, Cedric McMillan, James Hollingshead and Rafael Brandao, the competition was much more competitive than last year's event!

The presence of seven-time champion Phil Heath undoubtedly played a part in this, and not forgetting the monstrous Egyptian Mamdouh Elssbiay! Both of them are not only huge draws, but of course also huge title contenders!

It was speculated long before the competition that the biggest battle for the 2020 Mr. Olympia title would be between Phil Heath and Brandon Curry. The first semi-final comparison should have given a hint about how the 56th edition of the competition would unfold. Into that was called the six of William Bonac, Hadi Choopan, Mamdouh Elssbiay, Phil Heath, Akim Williams and Brandon Curry. They would divide the top 6 standings between them.

The first semifinal call

In the second equalizer, the five of Dexter Jackson, Hunter Labrada, Luis Rodriguez, Iain Valliere and again Akim Williams posed side by side. This may be a disappointing contest for Dexter Jackson, who plans to end his career here. This is his 20th start at Mr. Olympia and he has almost always finished in the top six!

The second semifinal elimination

Our Lukáš Osladil also appeared in the third call, alongside Maxx Charles, Regan Grimes, Seung Chul Lee, Juan Morel and Antoine Vaillant. Lukáš will most likely not follow up last year's mega success, when he finished eighth.

The third semi-final call-up

In the fourth call, the foursome of William Bonac, Mamdouh Elssbiay, Phil Heath and Brandon Curry met, and it looked like a battle for a top 3 finish.

The fourth semi-final call

The fifth call-up in the order was determined by the umpires to be the six of Hadi Choopan, Dexter Jackson, Hunter Labrada, Luis Rodriguez, Iain Valliere and Akim Williams.
One more fighter worthy of a top 6 finish was to crystallize from these fighters!

Fifth semifinal call-up

The sixth invocation was identical to the first, so the stage was filled with the six of William Bonac, Hadi Choopan, Mamdouh Elssbiay, Phil Heath, Akim Williams and Brandon Curry, with the monstrous Elssbiay posing in the middle of the line for the most part!

Even more interesting then was the last, seventh invocation, which brought together the foursome of Hadi Choopan, Mamdouh Elssbiay, Phil Heath and Brandon Curry. In fact, "Big Ramy" spent the most time in the middle of the line in that one too!

The sixthsemi-final elimination

According to the semi-final, it is very likely that Akim Williams and William Bonac will fight for the fifth place. Last year's discovery and fans' champion Hadi Choopan is very close to fourth place. The trio of Brando Curry, Phil Heath and Mamdouh "Big Ramy" Ellsbiay are currently fighting for the title!

"Big Ramy" is the closest to the title after the semifinal bouts! He has never been as close to the title as he is this year, when he is undoubtedly competing in the form of his life! He's not only massive, but he's also dusted to the bone, and his thighs are the absolute best across the entire starting field from every angle! Even his confident demeanor indicates how aware he is of the fact that he has the 2020 Mr. Olympia title within his grasp!

Quite possibly "up to" third place will have to be settled by seven-time champion Phil Heath. He certainly isn't racing at his best, plus his lack of abdominal muscle control that cost him the title in 2018 persists! Plus, compared to "Big Ramy", he looks like a juvenile! However, as we have become accustomed to with Phil over the l=years, he can come to the finals in absolutely excellent form that is a far cry from that of the semi-finals! So it's still too early to draw any conclusions.
