Kevin Levrone begins 12-week transformation, will he compete at Masters Olympia?
Author: During his tenure, Kevin Levrone established himself as one of the top bodybuilders of the 1990s. He shared the stage with a number of legends, including Shawn Ray, six-time Olympia winner Dorian Yates and Flex Wheeler. Although Kevin was unable to win the Mr. Olympia title, he came incredibly close, placing second four times (1992, 1995, 2000, 2002) at the prestigious competition.
Levrone is a two-time Arnold Classic champion (1994, 1996). He decided to retire in 2003, but did not officially announce this... In 2016, Kevin announced his comeback and competed in the Mr. Olympia competition that same year at the age of 51, where he placed 17th.
In a recent podcast episode with former pro Dennis James, Levrone spoke openly about a conversation he had with Joe Weider back in the day. Kevin claims that bodybuilding was (and maybe still is) all about the money and bluntly asked Weider why he still awards the Mr. Olympia title to the same man.
"I've learned not to take it personally. I remember asking Joe: Why can't any of us ever win Mr. Olympia? You keep giving it to the same guy...
His answer was: If I take my top four guys and shuffle them, put maybe Shawn in first place, then make the same amount of money. Nothing will change, but if I keep Dorian Yates where he is, I'll open up a whole different market." Kevin Levrone revealed to James.
You may have noticed recently that Kevin announced that he was going to work on his physique over the next 12 weeks. In a recent post on Instagram, Levrone informed fans of his planned transformation, fueling speculation of a Masters Olympia return. Levrone isn't the only veteran of the sport who has recently taken the plunge to transform his physique. Earlier this year, Australian Lee Priest decided to get back into shape.
