Jamal Browner attempted to pull 501kg on the deadlift to catch Björnsson!

At the beginning of this May it will be two years since Icelandic professional strongman, Hafþór Björnsson, set a new world record in the deadlift with 501kg! Although Thor broke this record in home conditions under the supervision of regular judges, many do not consider this attempt valid as world records are only broken at competitions. However, due to the covid condition, this was not an option and therefore the event was arranged at Thor's gym and was streamed online.

One of those who refused to accept the attempt as valid was the previous holder, English strongman Eddie Hall, who managed to pull 500kg at the 2016 Giants Live Deadlift World Championships. That's also why this feud between these excellent athletes has resulted in a boxing duel, which is expected to take place this March.

However, it is clear that this record too will fall in time. One of those who recently tried to lift 501kg was Jamal Browner. This powerlifter lined up with the same heavy axel as Thor in training and made a valid attempt. But his pull ended less than halfway through and Jamal had to drop the barbell. Amazingly, Browner at least got the barbell off the ground. With this feat, he has sparked a spark of hope for himself that will keep him going until he breaks the record!

My attempt at 1105 lbs (501 kg). I lifted it off the ground! At least I know I can lift 500 kg. Maybe if I focused on pulling it off, I could actually do it." Jamal wrote on his Instagram
