"It's time to take a year off," Regan Grimes will not be competing in this year's Olympics!

Regan placed 15th at last year's Mr. Olympia 2021. But even though that result looks bad, Grimes was happy with his performance at Olympia. He then went on to compete in two events in the fall - the Legion Sports Fest Pro 2021 and the KO Squad Pro 2021, which Regan won to secure his spot in the 2022 Olympia.

This year, Grimes couldn't pass up participating in the Arnold Classic and Boston pro, where he wanted to test his form while gaining more valuable experience. However, he released a statement on his YouTube channel that he only plans to compete this year and Mr. Olympia 2022, where he will also now direct his preparation.

The season is actually done for me. So I'm done and moving on to another phase. If you didn't know, I have qualified for Mr. Olympia, so I will be competing in Vegas in December. So that's what's next for me.

But in a recent podcast with Jay Cutler, Regan said he won't be competing at Olympia this year and will be taking a break.

It's 14 weeks until the Olympia and I need to put on 15 pounds (about 7 kg) of muscle to compete. I've been competing for the last 10 years and I think it's time to take a year off.

That means we won't see Grimes until next season. However, Jay hinted in the video if Big Ramy can defend his title and get a third win at Olympia.

"Looking at this year's field, I think Big Ramy will win Olympia. I don't see anyone challenging him, and he's in such good shape," Cutler said.
