From 11 May we can go to the gyms without masks!

From 27 April we can visit gyms and fitness centres again! They were closed by the Government of the Czech Republic since 13 March due to the spread of the viral disease Covid-19.

When these restrictive measures came into place, it seemed like the whole world had ended for many exercisers! However, even today, a week after the reopening, many fitness center and gym owners are asking:

Where are you all holed up! We're still deserted!

In many cases, the reason these spaces are still empty is because many exercisers refuse to work out in the guise!

On May 11, however, that could change, and the gyms could be "bursting at the seams" again! In fact, the government is further loosening the measures!

The obligation to keep the mouth and nose covered will no longer apply to organised exercise of persons, ideally with a distance of 2 m between the exercisers!

Organised training without a mask

Both group lessons and 1:1 training (trainer + client) at a sufficient distance from others can be considered as organised exercise. In contrast to organised training, e.g. for football players, the trainer does not need to wear a drape.

"Of course, this carries some risk that if someone in the group is subsequently identified as COVID positive, close contacts without a veil may end up in quarantine, but this is a risk that everyone has to weigh up for themselves. If they are at risk themselves, or have a person at risk at home, they had better not join the group!"

The decision of the operator is also crucial, as he should set the rules for his own operation with regard to the safety and protection of the clients as well as the trainers, instructors and other staff of the fitness centre. The operator may decide that the cover is not required for other exercisers - excluding the trainer - who keep a minimum distance of 2 m from other exercisers.

Increase in capacity

The new capacity expansion is also valid, from 11.5. it will be possible to sport up to 100 people at a time. The rule of maximum capacity of 1 person per 10m2 and the maximum capacity of group classes of 8+1 will be abolished. Other hygiene measures still apply!

"We have to learn to live with the risk of the threat of quarantine for some more time, currently the prevalence of the virus in the population is at a very low level, thus the probability of having a sick person is very low but not zero"

If the favourable epidemiological situation persists, facilities with changing rooms and showers could be allowed in the next wave from 25 May 2020.
