Flex Wheeler has been released from the hospital!

Former bodybuilder Flex Wheeler has been hospitalized since October 9, over two months. It certainly hasn't been an easy road for the fighter, but as early as this past Tuesday, he was posting videos from his hotel on his Instagram. Flex made it through his tough battle with covid and now he's looking forward to recovering after such a long treatment. In the video below, Flex describes the entire course of his illness and the worst part, when he was put on pulmonary ventilation. Wheeler likely contracted the covid at the Arnold Classic. When he returned from the race, he began experiencing discomfort and muscle pain. The condition steadily worsened until Flex woke up in the early morning hours to find that he felt really bad and that his entire bed was wet with his sweat. He subsequently called 911.

But Wheeler's condition continued to worsen, even in the hospital, and his lungs stopped working properly. The doctors explained to Flex that he needed to come off the medication he was taking for his kidneys (Flex had a kidney transplant in 2003) so that his lungs could recover properly. Flex agreed to this decision, even though it could have put his kidneys at risk. It just didn't happen and Flex was able to recover and overcome the disease completely.

Flex Wheeler's racing history

Flex Wheeler was born in Fresno, California in 1965. In 1992, he earned his pro card, which he capitalized on in 1993 by competing in four major events in one month, which he managed to win! Wheeler won the Ironman, the Arnold Classic and the French and German Grand Prix competitions.

Like Kevin Levrone, Flex Wheeler is also an inductee into the Hall of Fame. He earned this distinction by carving out one of the most aesthetically pleasing characters, thought by many to be the best to never win the Mr. Olympia title.

In seven attempts as Olympia, he was second three times - in 1993, 1998 and 1999 behind Dorian Yates and then twice behind Ronnie Coleman. Many still argue that Flex should have won the title at least once. At the time of his retirement, Flex had 16 wins from his 33 professional events (ranging in age from 27 to 37). Charles Glass was the trainer of this famed competitor, and he continues to train today.
