Hogan was not just a wrestler; he was a cultural phenomenon. He was at the forefront of the golden era of wrestling in the 1980s and started the wave of madness known as "Hulkamania." With his 201 centimetres of height, blonde hair, distinctive moustache and yellow and red outfit, he became the unmistakable face of the then World Wrestling Federation (now WWE). His ability to pull in crowds, iconic shirt ripping and signature finishing moves made him a hero to millions of fans around the world and helped transform wrestling from a fringe entertainment into a global business.

His influence soon spilled outside the sport. His role as the wrestler Thunderlips in Rocky III (1982), which introduced him to movie audiences, became unforgettable. Dozens of other film and television roles followed, including family comedies such as Mr. Nanny (1993) and the action series Lightning in Paradise (1994). Then, in the new millennium, he gave viewers a glimpse into his private life on the popular reality show Hogan Knows Best.

Although his career was marred by controversy in later years, his legacy as the pioneer who opened the door to mainstream wrestling is indelible. Upon news of his passing, thousands of condolences and remembrances immediately appeared on social media.

Tributes were paid to him by the WWE organization, which called him "one of pop culture's most recognizable figures" and thanked him for his contributions. Other legends, political figures and friends also paid tribute, including former US President Donald Trump, who called him a "great friend". His lifelong rival and friend Ric Flair wrote on social network X: "I am absolutely shocked. No one will ever compare to you my friend. Rest in peace."

Hulk Hogan left a huge mark on the entertainment world. He was not only a champion in the ring, but more importantly a showman who could sell a story and create an unforgettable character that will be remembered for generations.
