Wheelchair bodybuilder Chad McCrary has died at 50!

American bodybuilder Chad McCrary, known for his six appearances in professional wheelchair bodybuilding between 2021 and 2023, recently passed away. This sad news was shared by Nick Scott, founder of Wheelchair Bodybuilding, Inc. which played a key role in the recognition of the wheelchair category on the professional scene. Chad McCrary passed away on Thursday or Friday, although the cause of his death is not yet known.

Chad McCrary was born on April 1, 1974 in Ft. Worth, Texas. He had been confined to a wheelchair since March 2005 after a motocross accident where he suffered a fractured T12 vertebrae and spinal cord damage. Prior to this tragic incident, he had tried bodybuilding at the regional level, but only after the accident did he fully commit to it. Six months after his life change, he reappeared on the competition stage at the NPC Heart of Texas.

After an amateur career until 2020, he moved to the professional level, joined Jim Manion's IFBB league and started to fulfill his sporting dreams. In 2022, he had the opportunity to compete in the North American Arnold Classic and was a regular at the Wheelchair Olympia. His athletic performance and charisma earned him a sponsorship deal with Mutant, a rare accomplishment in his category.

Chad was planning to start this season at the Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic on March 2. Unfortunately, however, he did not finish his preparation as he left this world at the age of only nine-four years old.
