Trans bodybuilder in the Classic Physique category at the NPC Musclecontest Challenge 2025!
In the world of bodybuilding, no day is ever the same... A trans bodybuilder who competed in the Classic Physique category sparked a heated debate among fans and followers of the sport.
An unexpected scene at the NPC Musclecontest Challenge
In a recent Instagram post published on January 28, photos from the 2025 NPC Musclecontest Challenge, held in Los Angeles on January 25, surfaced. The Classic Physique competition, where a precise balance of proportion, muscle mass and fitness is key, challenges any competitor looking to emphasize the symmetry and aesthetics of their body.
A competitor who now identifies as male appeared on stage, making him one of the first trans athletes to make NPC history. This unconventional coming out sparked many reactions not only among fans, but also among other bodybuilders.
Reactions of fans
Discussions about the event quickly started on Instagram. Below is a selection of some of the reactions:
"I don't understand, is that a woman? And competing against men?" one commenter wrote.
"This is a first!" - added Antoine Vaillant.
"Well, hell, no!" - another user responded.
"Gyno final boss" - commented another.
"He looks great! All the best for the future" - wrote another fan.
"I can't do it anymore, the promoter is funny for allowing it" - said another commenter.
"Sister left her bra at home, what the hell?" - added another opinion.
"I assume it's a biological female transitioning to male - usually it's the other way around so it's shocking" - another user commented.
Controversy and wider debate
This incident is not the first time that traditional rules and expectations in bodybuilding have been challenged. Back in 2024, the Men's Wellness competition sparked controversy when speculation arose about the inclusion of a new division in the IFBB Pro League. Then Vice President Tyler Manion confirmed unequivocally that the league had no plans to add any more categories.
The transgender issue in bodybuilding continues to spark conflicting opinions. Trans Men's Physique competitor and coach Cody Harman explained in detail why bodybuilding is the ideal sport for trans men. According to him, the sport offers a structured environment where hard work, discipline and personal growth are directly reflected in physical progress and boosts self-esteem.
Transgender athletes have also recently been showing up in powerlifting. Recently, Lee Priest commented that it is "absurd" that biological men can compete against biological women in various sporting disciplines.
The question of the future
Given that this competition has been officially sanctioned by the NPC, the question arises as to whether trans athletes could appear in the IFBB Pro League in the future. The debate about whether they should compete according to their self-determined gender identity continues and raises many opinions among fans and experts alike.
What do you think? Should trans athletes compete in categories that match their gender identity? Or do you, like us, find it absurd? Let us know your opinion in the comments.
