Police have filed charges against 14 people for trafficking anabolics and narcotics!

The National Drug Control Center has filed charges against 14 people for trafficking anabolics and narcotics. Police said some members of the group were active at the top level in strength sports and sold substances at gyms.

During a police operation code-named "Fit," officers seized thousands of blisters, tablets and vials containing various hormonal substances used for muscle growth and doping in sports. The resale value of these substances would be at least CZK 1.5 million. Various quantities of cocaine, klefedrone, mephedrone and marijuana were also seized.

According to a spokeswoman for the National Drug Control Centre, Lucie Šmoldasová, 14 people were charged with the unauthorised disposal of drugs and anabolics that came from illegal production. The leader of the group and one other accused ended up in custody, three are under the supervision of a probation officer and have a travel ban, while the others are being investigated at large.

"According to criminal investigators, the main accused gradually built up an organised criminal group that focused on trafficking in illegal addictive substances and anabolics. This group has been operating since at least early 2021,"

spokeswoman Šmoldasová said. The criminal investigation took place in mid-June in six locations in the Czech Republic, namely in the Olomouc, South Moravia, Ústí nad Labem, Central Bohemia and Prague regions. Nineteen house searches and 16 searches of other premises were carried out.

According to detectives, four members of the gang were sending counterfeit official hormonal drugs by mail to other distributors in the Czech Republic.

"Some members of the group were active at the top level in strength sports and therefore used gyms to sell to end users,"

a spokeswoman for the head office explained.

Accusing a doctor

A doctor was also charged with possession and use of anabolics. According to the police, he sold a large quantity of Xanax packages worth CZK 20,000 to members of the criminal group "without a doctor's prescription and for medical reasons" after a prior agreement. This drug contains the psychotropic substance alprazolam.

Xanax is commonly used to treat anxiety and panic disorders, but it is also a popular drug, particularly in the hip hop community, and can easily become addictive.

The group expanded its offerings a year ago to include mephedrone, cocaine and methamphetamine, according to the National Drug Control Center. Criminal investigators seized crowns, euros and bitcoins worth a total of more than CZK 6.5 million in the gang members' bank accounts. Five vehicles, two properties, computer equipment and mobile phones were also seized.

"The accused face heavy sentences depending on the level of their criminal activity, including the maximum possible prison term,"

Lucie Šmoldasová, a spokeswoman for the headquarters, said.
