Nick Walker defends 50-year-old racer
The bodybuilding community has recently taken pause over 50-year-old competitor Eli Murdock's viral posing routine. His performance, which many have called unprofessional and undignified for the sport, has sparked a wave of criticism. However, well-known bodybuilder Nick Walker came to Murdock's defense, condemning the mockery and emphasizing the right to self-expression.
Posing like a circus?
Eli Murdock presented himself on the competition stage with a routine that many thought was more of a dance than a bodybuilding performance. Online commentators were not sparing in their criticism, claiming that such performances make bodybuilding a "circus" and distract from the main thing - the presentation of a well-developed physique.
Walker's defense: "Shame on you!"
Nick Walker commented on the situation on his Instagram. He strongly condemned the taunts about the 50-year-old competitor, whose way to the podium none of the critics know. According to Walker, Murdock was simply having fun on stage and trying to entertain the audience as well.
"People should be ashamed of themselves for mocking him," Walker wrote.
Freedom of speech on stage
The whole case has revived the debate about what is and is not appropriate in bodybuilding posing routines. While individual routines usually do not affect the judges' scores, some believe that overly entertaining performances diminish the professionalism of the sport. For example, bodybuilder Lee Priest stated that although such routines are entertaining, they can cast a "silly" light on the sport. However, Nick Walker believes that athletes should be free to be creative in their routines.
