From the Austrian Oak, doctor! Arnold Schwarzenegger has received an honorary doctorate!

In the world of fitness, there is probably no greater and more versatile legend. On 29 March 2026, Arnold was honoured at a ceremony at Ulster University in Belfast, Northern Ireland, where he was awarded a prestigious honorary doctorate. The reason? The university highlighted his tireless work in environmental conservation and his enormous social contribution from his time as Governor of California.

Returning to Belfast after 60 years

For Arnold, the ceremony had a very personal and nostalgic feel. In his speech of thanks, he recalled his first visit to Belfast a remarkable six decades ago.

"Think about it - most of you weren't even born then. I came here as a young bodybuilding champion, going to shows and flexing my muscles."

He didn't forget to mention his idol at the time, the legendary Reg Park (three-time Mr. Universe and the movie Hercules), whom he literally looked up to as a god as a budding bodybuilder.

"Schwarzenegger can't just talk for two minutes!"

Even in a formal academic setting, Arnold retained his typical sense of humor. During his speech, he made the whole room laugh when he revealed what instructions he had received from the organisers:

"They told me to come on stage and speak for only two minutes. Imagine that! How am I supposed to keep to two minutes? Am I supposed to look at my watch the whole time? Let's be honest, it's damn hard to be Schwarzenegger and only talk for two minutes."

Iron will at 78

Although Arnold is now collecting academic degrees, he certainly hasn't given up on iron and community. Even at 78, he is a huge driving force in our sport. Just recently, he hosted the gigantic Arnold Classic 2026 events (in Ohio and the UK), where history was made this year - with winner Andrew Jacked taking home an unprecedented $1 million prize.

In short, Arnold proves to us once again that age is just a number. With the right attitude and iron discipline, you can conquer stages, Hollywood, politics and eventually universities.
