Flex Wheeler's shocking confession: winning the Olympia would kill me!

Flex Wheeler, bodybuilding legend, recently gave an interview in which he looked back on his career and shared his thoughts on the current Men's Open scene. Wheeler is considered by many to be one of the best bodybuilders of all time, despite never winning the Mr. Olympia title.

Why would winning the Olympia cost him his life?

One of the most interesting moments of the interview was Wheeler's revelation that he's actually glad he never won the Olympia. Although it may sound surprising, Wheeler explained that he was struggling with serious mental issues at the time, including suicidal thoughts. He believes that the fame and pressure associated with the Mr. Olympia title would have been too much for him at the time and could have driven him to a tragic end.

"It was the best thing that ever happened to me," Wheeler said. "I don't believe I would still be alive if I had won Mr. Olympia. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be here if I had won because I was battling suicide."

He added that he used to have a hard time dealing with losing, but now he understands it differently:

"I understand now more than anything that it just wasn't written for me. It was hell to deal with... I understand now that it would have been too much for me. I fully understand, my father in heaven says I'm having trouble coming to terms with what I've given you. I can't give it to you because you'd be out of control. It doesn't bother me anymore."

Diet of a Champion: Filet mignon and peanut butter

Wheeler also revealed his diet at the time. His diet was very simple and consisted mostly of filet mignon and peanut butter. It was an extremely high protein diet with almost zero carbohydrates. Wheeler admitted that he should eat vegetables, but he just hated them.

Predictions for Mr. Olympia 2025

In addition to looking back at the past, Wheeler also looked to the future and shared his predictions for the upcoming Mr. Olympia. According to him, Samson Dauda and Andrew Jacked have the best chance of winning. Their height and potential for gaining muscle mass give them an advantage over smaller, though still impressive, bodybuilders like Hadi Choopan and Derek Lunsford. Wheeler believes that if all of the competitors are in 100 percent shape, Dauda and Jacked will be the ones vying for the title.
