According to Brazilian news reports, his wife explained that Souza had been taking diuretics to rid his body of excess fluid and water in preparation for bodybuilding competitions. Many believe this may have contributed to his death and caused excessive dehydration, including his sister Mary Braz and Yone Silva.

"He was very dehydrated.Unfortunately, very dehydrated," Silva said. " It's an addictive and competitive sport. Antônio was very focused on this sport," she added.

Souza used bodybuilding to provide a living for his family and has competed in the sport for the past five years. He started training at the age of 15 and continued to make progress in training and physique development, which he shared with fans on social media through workouts and progress updates. His family will not forget his loving nature or his desire to become the best bodybuilder he could. His dream was to be recognized for doing what he loved and to be able to provide a better life for our mother.
