A new era of Classic Physique? Mike Sommerfeld sends a clear message to opponents

With the retirement of six-time bodybuilding champion Chris Bumstead, the door to the throne of the Classic Physique category has opened wide. And one of the most vocal contenders for the vacant spot is Germany's Mike Sommerfeld, who confidently proclaims he is ready to take the reigns.

After years of the Classic Physique category being synonymous with the name Chris Bumstead, the bodybuilding world is entering a new, unpredictable era. Right now, a new king is being sought, and Mike Sommerfeld, who boasts incredible aesthetics and symmetry, is making it clear that he's the man for the crown.

In a recent interview for the Cutler Cast podcast, Sommerfeld shared his mentality ahead of the season's highlight, Mr. Olympia 2025. Although he is fully aware of the strength of his opponents, his confidence is unshakable.

"Sure, anyone of the top five can win. Ramon, Terrence - they are all dangerous and deserve respect," Sommerfeld acknowledged the strength of the competition.

But right off the bat, he added a phrase that resonates throughout the bodybuilding community:

"If someone can beat me, they deserve the title, that's for sure. But beat me first, then we'll talk."

These words are not just empty bravado. Sommerfeld has a great track record, including a second place finish at the prestigious Arnold Classic, and is known for his meticulous and detailed approach to training, which he likens to Nick Walker's deployment.

But his motivation goes beyond personal success.

"Winning the Olympics is no longer just about me. It's about responsibility to everyone who looks up to Classic Physique," Sommerfeld explained.

"I want to be the best ambassador this category can have. I want to be the one they look up to."

The stage is set for one of the most exciting battles in Classic Physique history. The throne is empty, the challengers are hungry, but Mike Sommerfeld is convinced he has what it takes to sit on it. Can he do it? We'll get the answer soon on the Mr. Olympia 2025 stage.
