Czech Strongest Man 2020 & Czech Championship in Log Lift - results + evaluation of Jirka Vytiska

Last Sunday 26.7.2020 strongman competitions took place in Golčov Jeníkov. But be careful, it was not just any race, on the contrary. Strongmen competed for the title of the strongest man in the Czech Republic and at the same time they could try to break the national record in log lift, which is held by strongman Jirka Vytiska.

Through an interview with Jirka Vytiska, who unfortunately took part in this year's competitions "only" as a referee, you can feel the atmosphere that took place on 26.7. in "Golcak" and go through the biggest strongman competitions of this year with us.

Hi Jirka, right at the beginning of the interview I would like to ask you how come you didn't compete in "Goláček" with other strongmen?

Hi, hello to the readers of Bodybuilding.com.

Well, that's a nice question right there. I just quit my competitive career. I've had enough, and as they say, it's best to quit.

Was this the first year you missed this contest, or did you miss another year?

Thinking back, it was the second time I didn't race. But both times I was a referee. So I didn't really miss it.

Aren't you sorry you were "just" watching?

Well, as it happens.......then you know I had a twinge, but that's just life.

But you participated anyway - if I'm not mistaken, you were a judge at loglift, right?

Like I said, I was second referee. And not just on the log, but also on the doubles. I refereed the entire Strongwomen's World Championships in the morning.

What is the atmosphere like at these races?

You can't describe it, you have to experience it. And in Golcak.......it's a massacre.

There were five disciplines (loglift, axle deadlift, sper yoke, tire flip, power stairs), are they the same every year or do they change every year?

The disciplines change. I think it would be stupid if the disciplines were always the same.

I'd like to go through each discipline with you to evaluate it for us with your eyes.

The first discipline was the loglift, which has been talked about since the beginning of the year in terms of breaking your record. The tradition was that easily five guys would go over 180kg, but in the end the weight ended up at 160kg and your record here remained unbroken.

What do you think? How come the guys didn't break the record even though they claimed how they would go well beyond your official limit?

What can I say. I think they just didn't have their day. Or bad air pressure. That's a lot of things that could have happened. But I think some people underestimated it. You know what......it's just all different than at home, at the gym, on your log. There's no referee, there's not those 1000people, and most importantly in training it's not about anything but making excuses for the surface or the fact that the log was a different weight. That's just bullshit.

And I think it's a good thing that they're racing on a log that nobody trains with. They have a log at the Arnold Classic, Astrian Oak, and nobody trains with that either. And nobody's bothering.

You must have had a good phase when you pushed that 180kg, huh?

I have to admit, I did. And I know I could have done better. And I put it on this amazing log on the "Jeník's Oak," and that's exactly where it's been for four years.

What's the most training you've done on a loglift?

I've got the most training weight at 190kg. On video 185kg. But like I said, on my log and at rest. But in competitions I just didn't put more than 180kg. But I think I'm the only Czech who's done 180kg wherever possible.

So let's go to the second discipline - Axle deadlift 300kg for the number of reps. Who dominated this discipline and with what number of reps?

So here it was clear that Chester would win. And he did 7. He's got no competition here.

Is it even possible to beat Chester in deadlifts?

He has no competition here.

The third discipline was Super Yoke 445kg. Who dominated in this discipline?

I'm not sure who won this disc., but it was obvious on the boys that it was tough. And a lot of them only walked a few meters with that weight.

Fourth event - Tire Flip 650 kg (3 times) + 850 kg (1 time). Was there any competitor who didn't flip the 850 kg tire, or did they all make it? Who was the best in this discipline?

In the end there were 3 450kg flips and 1 850kg flip.No.....850kg , it's just imagining it. There are not many people in the Czech Republic who have turned a tire like that or similar. So out of the whole starting field, only a handful could flip it. And some had trouble with 450kg. It's just not shit.

The last discipline was the stairs of strength. Is there any way to train for this discipline?

You know you can. If you've got the stairs of power, you need to be tall and strong and fast. Height counts for a lot in this event.

Did Chester master this event, or did someone beat him?

Chester has no competition in the Czech Republic. And not only in this. For example, Atlas, Dedlifts, Super Yoke, etc....Chestim was and is the strongest strongman in the Czech Republic.

Overall and intermediate results

How would you evaluate this year's edition?

And how would I evaluate it. One of the best competitions in the country. If not the best - just Golčův Jeníkov. Great races, great atmosphere, best spectators. And the fact that somebody didn't make it. That's just Strongman. Just sport.

Will the fans ever see you racing again?

I don't think so, but I'm still here. Every now and then I'll do an exhibition somewhere and if anyone is interested I still have something to pass on, so arranging a training session is no problem.

A lot of competitors wanted to break your loglift record, but in the end no one did.

Is it even possible to break your record? And if you look at the strongman scene in the country, is there anyone among them who has what it takes to break the national loglift record? Don't you want to increase it yourself?

You know it's possible. And I think it's about time. It's small compared to the world, but you've seen that it's no fun. 2 maybe 3 will probably be found, but they need to challenge themselves and put their egos aside.

I was going to lift 200kg, but probably not anymore. I left it to the younger guys. I'm just leaving, but undefeated....

Okay Jirka, thank you very much for the interview, take care and have a good day!
