Confusion over the alleged death of bodybuilder Victor Richards
Yesterday evening, the news that another former bodybuilder, Victor Richards, has died started spreading on social networks and the internet. This information was announced by Ron Harris of Muscular Development, adding that Victor, at the age of 56, has left us. Ron did not give any reason for the death, but there was only speculation as to whether the cause was again a heart attack.
But as it turned out, this report was misleading and wrong. Later that evening, Victor's daughter wrote a statement saying that her father was healthy and alive. Information about Richards' alleged death began to spread after Andreae Cahling shared a Facebook post that read "RIP Victor Richards, 56". However, it is good to know that Victor has not passed away.
Although Victor Richards never worked as a professional bodybuilder and kept to the amateur scene only, the form of this competitor was truly monstrous. Richards became famous for doing a lot of guest posing gigs during the 80s and 90s. There was even one recorded incident where he was seen posing with off-season Dorian Yates!
Victor Richards was by no means the most popular or famous bodybuilder, but he was clearly a pioneer of the types of mass monsters that are so well known today. There is even an argument that he paved the way for the likes of Ronnie Coleman, Phil Heath and Big Ramy.
It's quite tragic to hear the news of his untimely death, and it highlights the problems that have plagued the sport over the last few months. There have been an increased number of deaths in the sport - Shawn Rhoden, or John Meadows.
