Comparison of world bodybuilders - past VS. present

Times are moving forward and the demands of individual sports are changing with them. Athletes are expected to perform faster and faster, weightlifters need to be stronger than they were 10 years ago and today's bodybuilders need to be bigger than last year. And in today's article we would like to offer you, our readers, a comparison of the world's bodybuilders from the past and the present. This is not to insult contemporary bodybuilding and say that what came before was better. It is what it is, and we have to work from that.

However, we can pause for a moment and say, "I don't like the current forms of bodybuilders..." - without denigrating anyone. I (the author of this article) am not a bodybuilder and never have been. If I stood next to the world's bodybuilders, I'd probably look like a girl next to them... However, this isn't about knocking anyone, the fix here today is just about subjectively expressing your opinion of what bodybuilder looks best on you.

I (the author of the article) have been doing handball/athletics/functional training since I was a kid and therefore I like the forms of Steve Reeves, Frank Zanin or Franco Columbo more than those of the current fighters. Wondering why? I admire bodybuilders, but more in terms of the effort they have to put in to look the way they do. However, I really am an advocate of a functional body that can be put to practical use - I know that's not what bodybuilding was, is not, and will not be about. And that's why the fighters of yesteryear win with me over the ones of today, as whether it be Steve Reeves or Frank Zane, they certainly could function in normal life, rather than just in the gym or on the stage.
