The organizer is Martin Feiferlík, who managed to win the Reebok CrossFit Games Open 2020 in our country this year and guaranteed himself a direct qualification to the biggest CrossFit competitions in the world - Reebok CrossFit Games 2020.
We would like to introduce the Bohemian Throwdown 2020 through an interview with the aforementioned organizer Martin Feiferlik.
Hi Martin, if I'm not mistaken, you are the organizer of the new CrossFit competition in the Czech Republic - Bohemian Throwdown, right?
Yes it is.
How did you come up with the idea to organize CrossFit competitions?
I've tried several times to do some bigger events of this kind in our country and contribute to the development of CrossFit in the Czech Republic, but I didn't have the same opportunities as now. In the last two years I've been around a lot of big events, where I've also toyed with the idea that it would be nice to organize big competitions with foreign participation in the Czech Republic.
I suppose that your big ally and sponsor will be Plzeňský Prazdroj, since it is in the Pilsner brewery that the races will be held.
Yes the main partner will be Plzeňský Prazdroj, it is one of the symbols under which people from all over the world know the city of Pilsen.
Throwdown races are very common all over the world, but in our country it will be the first time that someone organizes such races. What are you going to offer to the competitors and spectators?
Throwdown is a designation and a resounding name - I would like to get athletes from foreign countries to the races. I would like to offer an interesting spectacle for the spectators with other action-packed programmes from both the sporting and cultural sides. It is worth mentioning that the event will be accompanied by a competition for companies and schools from the Pilsen Region and we want to bring this sport and methodology into the public consciousness.
When will you start the registration?
The registration will start at the beginning of December.
What categories can competitors apply for?
We have prepared categories:
- ELITE MALE /FEMALE
- RX MALE/ FEMALE - With 30/20 of the qualifiers going to ELITE and the other 20/10 going to RX
- Intermediate MALE/FEMALE
- MASTERS 35 MALE/FEMALE
- TEEN MALE / FEMALE
Other categories Companies and Schools:
- 3 MALE
Will there be an online qualification?
Qualification will be a given - it will start in early February and will be for 2 weeks.
How big a turnout do you expect?
I can't really imagine the turnout right now, but I would estimate around 200 athletes.
Is there really €12,000 worth of prize money up for grabs?
Yes we have €12,000 in the ELITE/RX and MASTERS categories.
One of the biggest CrossFit competitions(Big Summer Games) in our country is organized by our editor Venca Mráz, are you planning to do even bigger and better competitions than Venca's can offer?
Bigger and better races? I really can't say - we would like to give it our best and the quality will be known afterwards.
Are you planning to participate yourself?
Definitely not me - I would like to be in the organizing process and do everything I can with my team to make it enjoyable.
What would you like to say to any athletes, spectators and fans who would like to take part?
