212 Olympia 2022 | Report and results
Friday's day at Olympia Weekend started with the morning semi-final bouts, in which, in addition to categories such as Wellness or Figure Olympia, athletes from the popular 212lb section were also presented, which was packed with well-prepared fighters as usual. None of them, however, could keep up with the old-time winner Shaun Clarida, who takes another triumph after his 2020 victory.
Olympia 212 without a defender gave space to newcomers
It should be noted that a rather significant loss was the absence of Derek Lunsford, last year's winner, who despite his nomination decided to move to the traditionally most watched and prestigious Open category. It has to be said that a clear idea of the results of this category was already given by the morning's semi-final fights, from which the judges picked out the trio of Shaun Clarida, Angel Calderon Frias and Kamal Elgargni until the last call.
And while the 212-pound (or 96.2 kilograms) weight limit might seem to be quite restrictive for the competitors, this trio was clear evidence to the contrary. After all, Shaun Clarida himself had estimated his weight at some 84 kilograms before the race. However, it must be added that he is only 157 centimeters tall and according to the photos, he certainly does not look much shorter than the other competitors. However, since he worked on his weaknesses and showed both brutal volume and incredible sculpted, mature and vascular muscles, there was nothing to worry about and he rightfully takes the first place. In addition to his second title in the most prestigious bodybuilding competition, he will take home a cash prize of $50,000.
He was followed closely by Angel Calderón Frias, who is improving all the time. In 2019, he finished tenth, a year later he took seventh place and last year he finished fourth, just below the podium. This time, however, he did not miss out on a medal and he must definitely be satisfied with second place given his incredible progress. Especially since he also has a $20,000 prize money to go with it.
The third place was taken by Kamal Elgargni, who had a $10,000 bonus, just behind him was Ahmad Ashkanani and the best five Olympians was Oleh Kryvyi.

And now that the 212lb category is over, we can look forward to the semi-final of the packed open category, which will also feature Slovak giant Michal Križánek!
