130 cyclists escaped doping control at the races! How did the organizers and other competitors react?
What is the real state of honesty and fair competition among amateur cyclists? A recent bike race in Villena, Spain, revealed an alarming trend. Anti-doping commissioners came to check on the rules regarding doping and it turned out that quite a large number of riders apparently do not even want to meet the anti-doping commissioners.... Only a small proportion of the starters finished the race, raising suspicions that some were trying to avoid being checked for doping. How are the organisers and cyclists reacting to this situation?
"This is a f*cking joke. Anti-doping check in Villena = punctures and withdrawals. This is a reality that hopefully will not be repeated.By the way, I passed the check," said an indignant Álvaro Marzá, who finished eighth.
"It goes on and on. When the control comes, suddenly the same people always have some problem that makes them not finish. Last year one of them went off the road into the bushes to avoid the test.Sad," revealed one of the competitors.

Of the 182 original entrants, only 52 riders finished the race... "We all know who follows the rules and who doesn't," remarked an anonymous cyclist who made it to the finish line. According to the Ciclo21 website, usually half of the riders are able to finish the race. This time, however, only one-third of the starters finished the race, raising suspicions that some were trying to avoid a random check for doping.
