Tips and recipes for using shredded coconut

• for sprinkling - fruit salads or sweet porridge
• spreads - you can easily make your own strawberry-coconut butter by boiling water, soya milk and barley flour, then making either a sweet honey spread or a savoury one with yeast and garlic
• Baking - sprinkle coconut directly on finished desserts or add it to dough or cream
• soups - you can spice up classic soups if you add a little coconut and lemon juice towards the end, then just simmer for 5 minutes (pumpkin soup, red lentil soup)
• also tastes great with pasta (e.g. in combination with apples)

The coconut is a type of fruit that grows on coconut palms, mainly in the tropics, all over the world. The palms produce up to 150 fruits a year and have been cultivated by humans for 3000 years. Interestingly, coconuts are one of the largest seeds in the world and both the flesh, skin and water are used. The flesh of the nut is dried in the sun and when dried is called 'copra'.

Apart from cuisine, coconut is also used in the cosmetic industry to make soaps, shower gels, scrubs and much more.

This product is particularly appreciated by consumers interested in organic farming and sustainable farming systems. Organic food always goes through a system of inspection and certification that ensures its quality and allows it to carry this label.
