Potassium is the third most abundant mineral in the body. Together with sodium, it is involved in many absolutely essential processes. Its properties are related to a regular heart rhythm (and therefore an efficient blood system), the transmission of nerve impulses, muscle movement and energy levels. Potassium, along with sodium, participates in the so-called sodium-potassium pump, the transport of sodium out of and potassium into the cell. (See - Why keep potassium and sodium intake in balance).

Potassium is one of the minerals whose low levels are very common. Among the general population, but also in athletes. It is not impossible that it is the most underrated mineral ever. With its deficiency there is a risk of increased blood pressure, fatigue, poor concentration, muscle weakness, etc. The body also becomes excessively acidic.

Potassium is particularly important for sports people because of its properties related to blood circulation, energy metabolism, removal of excess water from the body and support of recovery.
